YOUR CONNECTION TO FMK

Our IP Number has changed!

If you're experiencing problems when trying to connect to us, it is probably because our web service provider has changed our IP (Internet Protocol) number.  Fortunately, we anticipated that this might happen at some time, so we put the capability for you to change it yourself into the program!

Here's how to do it:

Run FMK.  Select UTILITY.

On the UTILITY screen, in the lower left, under COMPUTEREASE CONNECTION, change the IP number that is there to this:

216.117.175.141

That should fix the problem!                                          ~ posted Oct 1, 2006

VERSION 3.09

Just a small plethora of bug fixes.

VERSION 3.08 ADDS SOMETHING, FIXES A COUPLE OF THINGS

Added is the ability to delete a picture from a recipe; just something overlooked when we put that in.

Fixed: anybody who loaded version 3.07 from scratch - on a computer without a previous version - found that the program wouldn't even run!  (This wouldn't affect you old users.)

Also fixed: the first time you go to the FMK cookbook from within the program, and click on a category, it downloads the index for that category and stores it on your computer so that you don't have to download it every time!  The problem was, once you downloaded a category, the switch wasn't getting flipped when new recipes were available in that category, so you never saw them.  Whew...

VERSION 3.07 FIXES item (2) in version 3.06

Correctly, this time.  We hope.  Sorry.

VERSION 3.06 FIXES TWO (POTENTIAL) BUGS

A couple of our faithful have reported having problems with these 2 things:

(1) If you (for whatever reason) press the ENTER key when entering the NAME of the recipe on the WORKSHEET, it really fouls things up.  We could just say, "if it hurts when you do that, then don't do that!", but better to just fix the problem, right?

(2) If you attempt to enter a fraction in the PREPARATIONS section of the WORKSHEET, it would truncate the slash and the number after it, producing potentially disastrous results.  For example, "add 1/4 cup flour" was being translated to "add 1 cup flour".  (I know it sounds strange that this could happen, but there is a good software programmer's explanation.  Just don't ask, okay?)

VERSION 3.05 FIXES THE "INPUT PAST END OF FILE" PROBLEM

There is a pesky little file (FLASH.WWW) that we use to send you "flash" messages.  It downloads automatically when you load the program while connected to the Internet.  On occasion, for some unknown reason - we can't make it happen - users are reporting that the file is there, but has a 0 byte file size!  When this happened, you would get this error.

VERSION 3.04 FIXES THE "SUBSCRIPT OUT OF RANGE" PROBLEM

If you are a "power user", i.e somebody who sits down at the computer and enters bunches of recipes at a time, then you have likely encountered this problem.  The reason it only occurred for that scenario is because it was a cumulative error - the situation got worse as you entered more and more recipes, until finally it croaked.

Thanks to the help of a few of our users - this was a hard one to find! - it has been solved!

VERSION 3.03 ADDS SOMETHING ONE OF OUR USERS ASKED FOR!

One of our users pointed out that the max font size in the PREPARATION section of a printed recipe (letter size) is only 12.  Her request to increase it was based upon a friend or family member who is visually impaired, and needed the larger print size.  A word of caution, however: if the prep section of a recipe is very large, it may cause an overflow condition.

VERSION 3.02 FIXES A MISTAKE MADE IN 3.01! (We never claimed to be perfect...)

See (1) below.  We did that, but...when you clicked SAVE & EXIT with incomplete data for a recipe, it did indeed tell you that you couldn't save it.  But then, it CLOSED the worksheet, and all data that you had entered for the recipe is lost!  Not a good thing, Martha...

You can determine for yourself if you need to download and install.  Not a big deal, but could cause you some consternation.

VERSION 3.01 MAKES SOME VERY MINOR CHANGES

...So you may or may not want or need to download and install it.  Here's what it does:

(1) Many people have wondered why - on the WORKSHEET - the option to SAVE & EXIT does not appear until you have entered a minimum amount of data in the required fields.  So many have written in, in fact, that we decided to let you see it immediately, when the worksheet opens.  It just won't WORK until you have put the data in!

(2) Why did the FLASH MESSAGE box have BLACK printing on the DARK BLUE background?  I don't know, but it is fixed!

(3) If your DATA.FMD file got lost, the program would tell you that it was lost, then tried to continue without it.  Which, of course, caused the program to blow it's mind!  It is fixed...

OTHER STUFF

A NEW VERSION OF FRIENDS AND FAMILIES IS BEING WORKED

This, of course, is our FREE little address book and reminder program.  We are hard at work on Version 2, which will add quite a few features which we hope you will enjoy!  It will remain a freebie for our loyal FMK users, but version 2 will be marketed as a standalone product.  Why?  Because it will be worth a few bucks, that's why!

Tips and Tricks

AUTOBACKUP versus MANUAL BACKUP
There has been some confusion about this, so let me attempt to clarify.

AUTOBACKUP

Every time you exit the program after having made some sort of change to your data, FMK automatically creates a full backup of all your data. It saves the last 5 backups. If you go to the UTILITY window, you will see them listed by date, time, and number of recipes. If your database gets corrupted - and this does happen, even to the best of programs - you can step backwards through these backups to find the one with correct data. (This may cause the loss of your most recently entered recipe(s), but that's better than losing everything, right?)

MANUAL BACKUP

Does exactly the same as the AUTOBACKUP, except it copies the backup file to a REMOVEABLE disk (floppy, zipdisk, CD-RW, etc.), which you should then keep in a safe place.  Because hard drive crashes happen!

SENDING A RECIPE TO THE COOKBOOK - HOW DOES IT WORK?
When you click on one of the links that read "Send recipe to From My Kitchen Cookbook", it leaves your computer in the form of an email message - even though your email software never shows up. Ain't technology wonderful? It arrives here in a special mailbox, where a screening program runs, which makes sure that it is (1) not a duplicate, (2) in the proper format, and (3) a legitimate recipe (yes, there are a few pranksters out there!). The program also lets us assign it to one of the dozen or so generic categories. Then it updates the From My Kitchen Cookbook on the WWW for everyone to view - even those ingrates who don't use FMK - at http://www.cebsys.com/cookbook.htm. All of this takes only a few seconds...

SEND A BUNCH
Yes, you can send recipes one at a time, but...if you are planning to send more than one, a better way is to create an EXPORT LIST - then send it to us as a batch! This sure makes our job easier on this end!

All our best,
Tricia and Doug Patrick
