EGGLESS DEVILS FOOD CAKE (150 YEAR OLD RECIPE)

  • 1/2 cups Lard or Butter
  • 2 cups Sugar
  • 3 cups Flour
  • 12 tablespoons Cocoa
  • 2 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 2 1/4 cups Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoons Vanilla
  • Cream together butter and sugar, Sift together all dry ingredients twice including cocoa. Add to creamed mixture alternately with buttermilk, add vanilla. Pour into two layer Pans Bake at 350° oven about 20 minutes or until done. Frost while warm.

    Frosting:

    Mix together one box confectionary sugar and four tablespoons cocoa, add Butter and cream till it reaches a spreading consistency, add one teaspoon vanilla spread between layers and Icing Cake.
