Cookies

DECORATED SUGAR COOKIES

  • 1/2 cup Shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 2 tablespoons Milk
  • 2 cups Flour, Sifted
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/4 cup Butter or margarine, melted
  • 3 tablespoons Evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar
  • Coloring as desired
  • 3/4 cup Butter flavored crisco
  • 1/4 cup Butter or margarine, softened
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract, clear
  • 4 cups Powdered Sugar, sifted
  • 2 tablespoons Milk or water
  • Coloring as desired
  • Preheat ovent to 375°. Blend first three ingredients together. Beat in the egg and milk. Stir in the flour, baking powder, and soda. Drop by rounded teaspoon on lightly greased baking sheet. Grease bottom of glass and dip in sugar and flatten each cookie or frost. Bake 8-10 minutes until lightly browned. Makes about 3 dozen cookies.

    Icing:

    Mix the next five ingredients until smooth. Add color.

    Decorator's Frosting:

    Cream butter and shortening; add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, beatin well on medium speed. When sugar is mixed in, add milk or water and beat until light and fluffy. If too thick, add corn syrup to thin slightly.

    Cute decorated as pumpkins for Halloween.
