Saucy Susans

  • 1 1/2 cups SR flour
  • 1 dessertspoon Butter
  • 1/2 teaspoons Salt
  • 3/4 dessertspoon Milk
  • 3/4 cup Dates, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon rind, grated
  • 1 dessertspoon Butter, melted
  • For the Sauce ***
  • 3/4 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Orange juice
  • 1 cup Water
  • Sift flour and salt, rub in butter.

    Mixto a soft dough with the milk.

    Turn onto a floured board, and roll into an oblong ¼ inch thick.

    Brush with the melted butter, sprinkle the chopped dates and lemon rind.

    Roll up from the long side, cut into slices 1 inch thick, arrange in an oven proof dish.

    Place the syrup ingredients in a saucepan.

    Bring to boil.

    Pour over the slices, and bake for 30 minutes in a hot oven.
