Apple Pie Squares

  • 2 1/2 cups Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon -heaping Sugar
  • 1 cup Shortening
  • 2 Egg yolks
  • ~ Milk
  • 2 handfuls Corn flakes
  • 6 -7 cups Apples, chopped, peeled
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 2 Egg whites
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • Cut shortening into the first 3 ingredients. Beat 2 egg yoks with a fork add enough milk to make 2/3 cup liquid. Add toflour and shortening mixture. Divide into half. Roll 1/2 to fit a jelly roll pan. Sprinkle cornflakes on bottom crust. Cover with apples, 1 cup sugar and cinnamon. Cover with top crust of remaining dough. Beat the 2 egg whites until foamy - brush on top crust. Bake at 350° for 1hour. Mix powder sugar with a little milk. Drizzle on top of crust while warm.
