Baked Steak
Heat shortening or oil in skillet.
Add salt and pepper to flour, with garlic powder. Place each piece of steak in flourand make sure it is well covered and add to hot skillet. Brown on both sides well. Add more shortening if needed. Placeeach piece of steak in baking dish to lay flat and enough room for gravy.
Make sure there is about 4 tablespoon of shortening left in skillet. Add flour, keep stirring with a wire wisk,till well browned, add 2 cups of water, bring to a boil, if too thick, add more water.Salt andpepper to taste.Add mushrooms, pour over steak, cover with foil and bake in a 350° oven for an hour - 1-1 1/2 or until tender.
