Cakes and Frostings

Red Velvet Cake

  • 1 cup Crisco
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 2 tablespoons Cocoa
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 ounce Food coloring, red
  • 2 1/4 cups Flour, sifted
  • 1 tablespoon Vanilla
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon Vinegar
  • Make a paste of cocoa and food coloring.

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Mix in theeggs.

    Then add in the cocoa paste.

    Comine flour with salt.

    Add flour, alternating with buttermilk and vanilla, into thecreamed mixture.

    Fold in the vinegar and soda.

    Pour into 2 greased and floured 9" cake pans.

    Bake 30-35 minutes at 350°.

    Icing with your favorite white frosting.
