Apple Dumplings

  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1/4 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup Margarine
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 3/4 cup Shortening
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 6 cubes Butter
  • 6 Apples, Winesap
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 3 teaspoons Sugar
  • Pinch Cinnamon
  • Cook first five ingredients in a pan until dissolved. Core and peel 6 apples, let hole.

    Mix flour, salt and baking powder. cut in shortening until crumbly. Addmilk and mix. Divide dough into 6 ballsand roll out on floured board, making arectangle. Set apple in the center of the dough. Put a small lump of butter in the center of the apple and 1 tsp. sugarand a dash of cinnamon. Close dough around apple and pinch to secure. Put in greased 9 x 13 pan. Pour syrup over top. Bake at 375° for 34 minutes. Baste every 10 minutes.
