Banana Doughnuts
Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt. Beat shortening until creamy, then add sugar and beat until light. Add egg and beat in well. Then add buttermilk, banana, spices, and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients. Put onto floured board, knead lightly, and roll to 1/2-inch thickness. Cut with doughnut cutter. Fry in hot deep fat until nicely browned, drain on paper towels, and dust with powdered sugar.
Makes 2 dozen doughnuts.
