Beef Pastitsio

  • 1 pound Ground beef
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped
  • 1 can (15 oz) Tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Oregano, dried
  • 1/4 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 Garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 cups Elbow Macaroni, UNCOOKED
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, mild, shredded
  • 1 Eggs, beaten
  • 3 tablespoons Butter or margarine, melted
  • 3 tablespoons Flour
  • 1 1/2 cups Milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, mild, shredded
  • In skillet, brown ground beef and onion; drain. Stir in tomato sauce, salt, oregano, pepper, and garlic. Cover and simmer for 15 minutes, Meanwhile cook macaroni, according to package directions, drain and rinse. Combine Macaroni, cheese and egg; set aside. For sauce, melt butter in a saucepan. Stir in flour; cook andstir until smooth and bubbly. Stir in milk; cook and stir 5 min or until smooth and thick. Remove from heat and stir in salt and cheese. Spoon half the macaroni mix into a greased 9X13 pan. Cover with meat mixture, top with remaining macaroni. Spread sauce over top. Bake 350, uncovered for 30 min, let stand 5 min before serving.
