Caramel Apple Bars

  • 1/2 cups Butter or margarine
  • 1/4 cups Vegetable shortening
  • 1 cups Brown sugar
  • 1 3/4 cups Flour
  • 1 cups Quick Cooking Oatmeal
  • 1 teaspoons Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoons Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoons Baking soda
  • 1/2 cups Pecans, chopped, opt
  • 5 cups Apples, cooking, peeled and sliced
  • 3 tablespoons Flour
  • 1 jar (16 oz) Carmel ice cream topping
  • In mixing bowl, cream butter, shortning, and brown sugar, until fluffy. Add flour, oats, salt, cinnamon, soda; mix well. Stir in pecans if desired. Set aside 2cups of crumb mixture. Press remaining mixture into an ungreased 9X13 pan. For filling toss apples with flour; spoon over the crust, drizzle carmel topping over apples. Sprinkle with remaining crumb mixture. Bake 400 for 25-30 minutes or until lightly browned, cool before cutting.
