Chala Masala

  • 2 cans Garbanzo beans
  • 1 cup Rice
  • 3 tablespoon Olive oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 large Onions, chopped
  • 1 large Tomatos, fresh, chopped
  • 3 cloves Garlic, crushed
  • ~ Ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon Garam masala
  • ~ Cayenne pepper
  • ~ Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup Tomato sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 1/2 cups Water
  • ~ Raisins (optional)
  • Cook rice. In large saucepan, saute onion, garlic, and ginger in 3 T olive oil; add a little water to keep from sticking. Add garam masala, cayenne, salt, pepper, & tomato sauce, stirring well. Add baking soda, garbanzos, water.

    Simmer20-30 min. until onions and tomatoes are very soft. If desired, add raisins during last few min. Serve over rice.
