Buttermilk Biscuits

  • 2/3 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 2 cups Sifted flour
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 3 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1/4 cup Margarine
  • 2 tablespoons Melted margarine
  • Sift dry ingredients into mixer bowl. Cut margarine into small chunks and dropinto flour mixture. Mix on low speed until mixture resembles cornmeal. Add buttermilk and mix on low speed until dough clings to beaters and clears sides of bowl. Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead lightly until smooth,about 30 seconds. Pat or roll dough to1/2-inch thickness. Cut into circles with a 2-inch biscuit cutter. Place biscuits on a greased baking sheet and brushwith melted margarine. Bake at 450°F for 12 to 15 minutes. Serve immediately.
