Cakes and Frostings
Basic Chocolate Cake
Sift together dry ingredients except sugar and set aside. Place sugar and shortening in mixer bowl. Attach beaters and mix at medium speed until creamy. Addeggs and mix for 2 minutes longer. Addmelted chocolate. Combine liquid, vanilla, and almond extract; and add alternately with dry ingredients, mixing well after each addition. Pour batter into 2 greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 25 minutes. Remove from pans and allow to cool thoroughly before frosting.
