Deep Dish Apple Pie

  • 2 1/2 quarts Cooking apples, sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups Sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 dash Mace
  • 1/2 tsp Nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • Pare and slice apples. Fill an oblong glass baking dish (about 12 x 8 x 2) withapples. Mix dry ingredients and sprinkle over apples­mixing lightly. Dot with butter. Roll pie crust thin; place on top. Brush crust with cream in cut slits. Bake at 450°F for 15 minutes. Then reduce heat to 350° and cook for 45 minutes longer.
