Chewy Ginger Drop Cookies

  • 1/2 cup Shortening
  • 1/2 cup Sugar
  • 2 cups Flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Molasses
  • 1/4 cup Water
  • 1. In mixing bowl, cream shortening andsugar. Combine flour, baking soda, ginger and salt. Combine molasses and water.Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the molasses mixture.

    2. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls 2 inches apart onto greased baking sheets. Sprinkle with sugar as topping.

    Bake at 350° for 13-15 minutes

    Makes 2 1/2 dozen.
